GoBoat rents out electric picnic boats in 17 locations, from Islands Brygge in Copenhagen to Australia and the USA. Its crews are hired once a year, and since March 2021 they have been onboarded in Monotree.
At GoBoat we have used Monotree since March 2021 with great success. Over time it has become our 'go-to' tool for internal communication among all our employees working at our boat rental stations around the world. We also use it for on-boarding, check lists, employee satisfaction and as an internal knowledge center, where learnings are documented, shared and applied. We really enjoy the great user experience and versatility the app offers.
GoBoat rents out small electric picnic boats, each with a table in the middle and seats for eight. They sail at 3 to 4 knots. Kasper Eich-Romme, Carl Rand and Anders Ekelund Mørck started the company in Copenhagen in 2014, and the three of them still own all of it. The first boats went out from Islands Brygge, and Aarhus came next.
Five of the 17 locations are now in Australia and four are in England, and there are others in Germany, Sweden, Italy, the USA and Colombia. In Denmark alone the fleet has grown from eight boats in 2014 to around 60. In 2022 a GoBoat was booked more than 65,000 times worldwide, and more than 1.2 million people have been out in one since the start. What GoBoat wants is to get more people out on the water.
There were three employees at the start. GoBoat Denmark now has around 60 in a typical year, 12 of them full time. Deck crew, captains and customer service staff are hired once a year, and people often move between locations, so someone from Australia may end up working in Denmark, or the other way round. The company looks for people who want to do something together, and it takes having fun at work seriously.

A new crew member starts in the app. Onboarding runs there, and so do the checklists for the job, and GoBoat uses it to ask staff how satisfied they are. When a team learns something, it is written down in the app, where the other stations can read it and use it.
