Call a colleague on shift without their phone number
Voice and video calls in your employee app, one to one or with a whole group. The call rings like a normal phone call, even when the app is closed, and nobody has to hand out a private number.

What is Calls in Monotree?
Included in every Monotree plan, with no add-ons
Calls lets employees make voice and video calls in the Monotree app, with one colleague or a group of colleagues. A call starts as a voice call, and anyone can turn their camera on to show what they are looking at. The person being called sees a name, not a phone number, so nobody has to collect private numbers to reach the team.
A call can start from a colleague's profile, from the Calls tab, or from the phone button at the top of a chat. In a group chat, that button calls the members of the chat, such as the people working the same shift.
Calls run through call servers that Monotree operates in the EU, and sound and video are encrypted in transit. Calls are not recorded. Read more about how data is handled on the security page.

When a message is too slow
For the moments when a chat message is too slow.
-
Rings like a phone call
An incoming call shows on the lock screen with the caller's name, even when the app is closed. Answer on one device and the others stop ringing.
-
No private numbers
Colleagues find each other by name. Nobody has to share a private phone number to be reachable, and none is shown when they call.
-
Video when you need it
Turn the camera on during a call to show a broken machine, a delivery or a display, and switch between the front and back camera.
-
Group calls
Call several colleagues at once, or everyone in a group chat or shift chat. Anyone in the call can add more people while it is running.
-
Missed calls
A call that is not answered within 30 seconds is marked as missed, and the person gets a notification. Missed calls have their own tab, so calling back is one tap.
-
Calls on your terms
Each employee can turn calls off completely, or let calls go quiet whenever their notifications are muted.
A call in two taps
Everyone is already in the app, so there are no numbers to collect or contacts to save.
-
Pick a colleague
Search for a person by name, open a chat with them, or pick several people for a group call. The app asks for microphone access the first time.
-
Their phone rings
The call rings on the colleague's phone like a normal call, with your name on the screen. They answer or decline in one tap.
-
Talk, or call back later
During the call you can turn the camera on, mute, switch to the speaker, add people or minimise the call and keep using the app. If nobody answers, the call is listed as missed.

What customers say
Read the storyWhat might have been a challenge in the past was the fact that you always need to have someone's phone number in order to get in touch with them directly. Here it's great that there's a chat function, so you can tie it all to work. And when you're not at work, you can just put it down.

Questions about Calls
- { if (d !== $event.target) d.open = false })">
-
Who can I call?
Any colleague in the company who uses the app and has not turned calls off. Search by name, or filter by department or profession to find the right person.
-
Can the people I call see my phone number?
No. Calls go through the app, so the person you call sees your name, not a phone number. Nobody needs a colleague's private number to reach them.
-
Do calls ring when the app is closed?
Yes. An incoming call shows on the lock screen like a normal phone call. On Android, the app asks for permission to show calls in full screen, which is needed for this.
-
Can I call a whole team?
Yes. The phone button in a group chat calls the members of that chat, and from the Calls tab you can pick several colleagues. More people can be added while the call is running, and everyone can turn their camera on.
-
Are calls voice or video?
Both. A call starts with sound only, and each person can turn their camera on and off during the call and switch between the front and back camera. That works in group calls too.
-
Can I stop calls on my days off?
Yes. By default a call rings even when notifications are muted, so an urgent call still gets through. Each employee can choose to mute calls whenever their notifications are muted, for example during quiet hours or on vacation, or turn calls off completely.
-
Are calls recorded?
No. Sound and video are not recorded or stored. The app keeps a list of calls with who took part, when, and whether the call was answered or missed.
-
Where do calls run?
Calls run through call servers that Monotree operates in the EU, and sound and video are encrypted in transit.
-
Can an administrator turn off calls for an employee?
Yes. Administrators can switch calls off for a single employee in the CMS. Colleagues then see that this person has calls turned off, instead of a call that is never answered.
-
How do we turn Calls on?
Calls is switched on per company. Ask your Monotree contact, and a Calls tab appears in the app for everyone.
-
Do we pay extra for Calls?
No. Monotree has one price per user, and it covers every feature including Calls, along with AI, integrations, personal onboarding and live chat support. There are no modules or add-ons.
-
Can employees use Calls on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. Your employees use Monotree as your own branded app on iPhone and Android, and administrators manage content and settings in a web-based CMS.
